Acting Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to Barangay execs:Stop Gang War

Acting Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday called on barangay officials to ensure that peace and order is maintained in their respective areas.

The appeal came after his office received reports that gang wars are beginning to be on the rise again, particularly in certain areas in Tondo.

Moreno said those involved in the riots are usually youngsters who are members of fraternities or gangs and that said street wars occur usually in the midnight up to the wee hours of the morning.

The acting mayor likewise appealed to parents for them to monitor the activities of their children closely, stressing the role that proper guidance does in the paths that these youngsters choose to take.

He noted that most of the time, kids are pressured into joining riots and similar activities in exchange for the assurance of belonging and protection from a certain group.
"Marami diyan ay nape-pressure lang na sumama sa gulo kung hindi ay ia-out sila sa grupo," he said.

With the joint support of parents and barangay leaders, Moreno said the young citizens of Manila would be better protected and kept away from harm.
Moreno said such gang wars or riots should be nipped in the bud as they have the tendency to escalate into more violent confrontations.
